This was a very exciting week for the 4th graders. They came back from March Break ready to jump into working in groups and researching their topics. In order to do so, each group had to come up with and finalize their lines of inquiry. This process began before the break, where students brainstormed "thick" questions using the key concepts of form, function, change, causation, connection, reflection, perspective, and responsibility. Once this was completed, the students worked with their mentors to select the most thought provoking questions to guide them in their research.

On Monday, the fourth graders came together to brainstorm criteria upon which they should be assessed throughout their Exhibition journey. Using Inspiration, they organized their ideas and came up with category names. The teachers then compiled the students' input and created a rubric that was presented to them later in the week. Students continued researching and taking notes using the Cornell Note taking format. They also learned how properly cite their resources using the APA format. In doing this, many students noticed that they did not have a variety of resources, which encouraged them to explore other ways to gather knowledge. Keep an eye out on your child's Seesaw for their first reflection!

Mr. Lohmeyer came to visit the 4th grade again to talk about the possible ways to take Action. He helped the students organize and expand on their action ideas to reach the largest possible audience and create the most awareness.

Week in Review April 18-21
This week was a very busy week for the fourth graders. Not only did the groups finalize their plans for their knowledge products and action, but they also were able to use their first few Art classes to get started on their projects.
As part of the Exhibition process, the students have been working on their skills of note taking, paraphrasing, and paragraphing in each session. This week, the students worked hard to synthesize all of the information that they have gathered into essay format. They began this process by using an outline to organize their ideas around their lines of inquiry. Then they used this organizer to present their learning in written form. Be sure to check your child's SeeSaw for their reflection on what they achieved this week!
